Life in Brunei
No shopping, no sight-seeing, no internet access, no Rove Live *sighs* Thats life in Brunei! If I had to make a choice between living in Australia and Brunei, I'd definitely pick Australia. If it wasn't for my family, friends and the constant desire for malay dishes, I wouldn't care one bit to come home. There's absolutely nothing to do here and it is driving me crazy! Don’t get me wrong, I am proud to be a Bruneian. But the lack of a hell lot of things is getting on my nerves. Since I've got here, I've been shopping for a few times already and 99% of the time the checkout girls and sales assistants were rude, ignorant and annoying. It does not hurt to say 'hello' or 'may I help you?' to customers. I really hate it when they follow me around without saying a word, as if I am a bloody thief. Also hate it when they keep pushing me to buy something that I don’t need. They hardly even know anything about the products they are selling.
The second thing that I’ve noticed is the aggressive, impatient drivers here. I’ve seen drivers accelerating at red light, driving at the wrong lane, overtaking a car when it is clearly not safe to do so and so much more. Why is there no action against road rage? Surely a light fine of $5 can teach these drivers. $5 might not seem a lot but when there are 30 road rules broken in 10 minutes (I’ve counted this myself when I was in a bad traffic at the infamous 3 lanes roundabout), total fines can rack up to thousands in a day. These fines are much more acceptable compared to fining drivers for having tinted windows. What’s wrong with tinted windows anyway? When I had my driving lesson, I was never told about the danger of tinted windows and it was not on the road rules booklet. IMO, grooming a car is harmless and road rage behaviour can be fatal. Hopefully something will be done about this.
Other than rude checkout girls, crazy SA and aggressive motorists, there are many more little things I want to get off my chest but since they don’t bother me much now, it is not worth mentioning. I hardly use my mobile phone but if I did, I can go on and on and on about DST.
Now to the good stuff, my brother finally gave me back my own sim card. Sorry for the inconvenience of contacting me before. I’ve been busy since I got home but not so much now. Sorry Mea, Miz, Akmal cos I haven’t been able to reply your texts, are we still going out on the 20th? What about bowling? I stink at bowling but I don’t mind eating at Jollibee =P I’ll watch you guys bowl while I pig out! Also many many thanks to everyone who was at the Mall with me… cana boleh lupa ambil gambar atu kan?!! Anyway, I better go now and get ready..busy busy day today!
